Lost resonated with me so much! I loved the conclusion. If you've yet to see it then please don't read this post any further...Natasha, Shanon and I have been chatting on Facebook about it, and i decided i might as well share some of my thoughts in a post here.
So much can be read into the whole series and into the finale itself, alot of questions can be asked, some answered some not, but then thats what life is like isnt it. Lost right from day one, had all the facets that we travel through within our own lives.
The struggle for survival on the island, the trying to leave, wanting to go back home, questioning the reasons for things, searching for love, seeking for meaning, developing friendships and relationships, getting to know yourself and each other along side working through past experiences and relationships.
Towards the end of this final series i was touched by the changes that were evident in all the characters and particularly Jack. The relief he was able to find as things began to resolve for him especially within the final episode was a relief also felt by those watching who have shared the journey with all the characters from day one of the plane crashing. I felt he acted that superbly. Showin how he went through the journey on the island from a head/scientific perspective at the start, to gradually being stripped back to feel his emotions and go more by instinct. Both sides of his nature seemed to balance out by the end.
Jack at the beginning would not have been able to step up to take on the guardian of the island...or maybe he would have but for different reasons, obligations, feeling he needed to save everyone,be the leader he'd become accustomed to....instead when he did take the role on it was through feeling it was what he was meant to do, for him, for his own purpose and because it felt right, not in order to mean the others didn't have to do it. That was a marked difference I felt.
I also felt he and Kate could only "find" each other once he was more at peace and was no longer punishing himself for failing to save the girl that died on the operating table before he came to the island, then he allowed it in. Allowed their love in.
I hadn't expected to feel as strongly about wanting those two together.
The biggest gasp moment had to be Jack being stabbed by bad Locke!
Then Kate&Jack's kiss on the top of the rocks was up their with my favourite moments of Lost ever.
I liked how their bond was highlighted on the island and less so in the other reality at the concert. Whereas for the others their reunions took place "off island"
Charlies and Clares had me in tears, and Juliette and Sawyers was so perfectly done, that it also is up there with the best ever Lost moments.
I thought Sawyer acted it so well, he was still the same essence of Sawyer-ness despite being a cop in that "reality".
I thought the clever mix of Juliette being Jacks wife and mother of his son, yet destined for Sawyer, interplayed well with the way Kate too, had been drawn to Sawyer but needed to end up with Jack. It rounded off the Love-square nicely!
For the ending in the church I felt the use of the different religious symbols in the stained glass window very beautiful.
And Jacks dads words about nobody does it all alone, you needed them and they needed you.
And the way it was about Jack working to a place where he could "remember and let go"
It's a very simple thing but very important.
It shows what happens when people feel from their hearts, and have others support and "I believe in you" as Hurley says so well. You know the way you can feel, when bad stuff happens, like grief or illness. The way it makes you go there and feel raw stuff and that's where you get the understanding spring up from, a bit like the way the water came back after Jack put the stone in. That sort of supply, mixed with relief after a long time struggling.
Maybe when we're working through stuff here, we can't make sense of it all. We can only be in the moment and make the decisions as they come. Its a great blessing if you can touch that place where their's a knowing in your heart that there's been a reason for it and that everything is ok.
The bit when Jack realised he was dead, that's when he truly understood what it was all about. But i don't think we have to wait till after we can "get it" here, and then live from that heart space, that Now-ness as much as we can. Its got to enhance what our individual and collective lives are about, and can become.
What I did come away from it with was that wonderful feeling after you watch a good film(but magnified as its been a film of 6yrs!) of trusting in that force that pulls you to where you need to be and pulls to you,who you are meant to meet. So you don't have to find your "constant/soulmate" you can let go and trust. And I got that feeling about my own health stuff to. Play my part and surrender the rest. I mean I already aim to live that way it was just a good reminder that there's a point to it all and a Love behind it all.
There's always reasons for everything, sometimes it's just working stuff through from the past other times it's creating avenues toward a point to meet someone or resolve something at a future point.
I think that's what defines people in life whether you believe there isn't a point or reasons for things,a life after life here, versus believing that there is a loving reason and that this part is part of a larger picture. Jack seemed to represent that journey from one way of thinking to the other way of being.
It takes courage i think, to do the ending they chose, to not overly complicate it all, to make it more powerful through it coming down to what really matters in life. Leaving some questions unanswered but providing an overall essence that things worked out and resolved within Love. It's humans that complicate stuff & ask too many questions afterall! Lost showed through all the characters all the way through, that courage, following your heart, working together and Loving were paramount. I'm going to miss them!
So there it is. What Lost made me feel.....hopefully my thoughts which turned into a rather long post, have been interesting to you. I'd love to hear your thoughts too.
(all the images are from google and i by no means have copyright so hope i havent stepped on anyones toes by having them in my little post. Theyre also not from the final episode but from over the years)
Hope you enjoyed the ending, which was really just a beginning, just as much as I did...
